Thale is a starting point for hikes through the wild and romantic Bode Gorge and the vast forests of the Lower Harz. 

You shouldn’t miss out on taking the funicular railway up to Hexentanzplatz or riding the chairlift up to Rosstrappe. The Walpurgis Hall, Thale Animal Park, Trail of Myths, and a performance at the Harz Mountain Theater are among the many must-see highlights. The annual Walpurgis Festival on April 30th at the Hexentanzplatz always promises a very special experience. Even Goethe was convinced that witches and demons gather here on Walpurgis night and fly together to the Blocksberg (Brocken Mountain) at midnight!
