A warm welcome to our 3-star superior AKZENT Hotel Turmwirt Garni at the heart of the Ammergau Alps.
About the history of our establishment: Today's village church was reconstructed from 1736 to 1742. A hut was erected for the builders working on the church steeple, and it later became the steeple inn. Annexes were added and the old structure enlarged over time to accommodate the growing numbers of tourists. Today's hotel emerged from all this activity, while losing nothing of the comfort associated with a traditional village inn.
The Turmwirt has been owned by our family for four generations. Here you can enjoy authentic Bavarian hospitality, the charm of a family hotel and the serenity of the Ammergau Alps.

Hiking
There are plenty of flat hiking trails along Ammer Valley, easy hill walks to accessible mountain restaurants and high Alpine trails that are conveniently connected to mountain railways.
Learn the properties of the local wild herbs or observe the golden eagles soaring above Graswang Valley.
The paths wind through dense, mixed woodland, across upland moors, protected hillside meadows, down deep valleys and gorges, and past waterfalls.
Listen to nature, feel and see it in its purest form.
Sociable guests are welcome to join one of the guided hiking tours that are offered in town at least twice each week.
Others looking to combine hiking with meditation and to escape from everyday life can experience harmonious balance along the Ammergau Alps Meditation Trail. The pilgrim's path starts at the Pilgrimage Church of Wies in Steingaden and passes mystical sites of natural forces and places of notable cultural interest on its way to Linderhof Castle in Graswang Valley near Ettal.

Many of the hiking trails in the valley are cleared in winter and then wind their way through an enchanting fairytale world between ice crystals and shrouds of mist. The sky is white and blue during the summer in Bavaria, but so is the landscape in winter.
Clear, cool and fresh air is an elixir for the entire body. The explanatory signs along the Altherrenweg trail give visitors plenty of fascinating information on the indigenous flora and fauna. What's more, the sun shines down on this southern mountain trail in winter, while the town itself often lies in the shadows. Romanshöhe is a well-know destination for excursions. From there the trail continues on toward Unterammergau.
